WEEKLY AI RECAP
June 15th - 19th 2026
🤖 Anthropic forced to block Fable 5 globally 🤖
A U.S. export directive pulls Anthropic's two newest models offline overnight.
Anthropic suspended worldwide access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models after the Trump administration ordered all foreign access blocked, citing national security concerns and a potential jailbreak reportedly flagged to officials by Amazon researchers. Anthropic said it received only “verbal evidence” of a “non-universal jailbreak” and that similar vulnerabilities exist in other public models. Rather than apply selective restrictions — which would also have locked out its own foreign-national staff — the company chose to suspend access for everyone, setting a precedent for direct government intervention in model distribution.
🤖 OpenAI readies GPT-5.6 with a 1.5M-token context 🤖
The next flagship targets developers with massive context and aggressive pricing.
OpenAI is preparing to launch GPT-5.6 as early as next week, with expected Mini and Pro variants, a 1.5 million-token context window, improved long-horizon coding, and faster Codex responses. Pricing is positioned to undercut Anthropic — pointed timing, given the U.S. regulatory headwinds now hitting Claude Fable 5 availability. The release reinforces OpenAI’s push to stay ahead among foundation-model providers, letting developers process entire codebases and long documents in a single prompt.
🚀 Microsoft Copilot Cowork goes generally available 🚀
Agentic, end-to-end task automation lands for every Microsoft 365 Copilot customer.
Microsoft made Copilot Cowork generally available worldwide, bringing AI automation for complex, long-running tasks to Microsoft 365 Copilot customers. After three months of Frontier preview it’s already used by more than half the Fortune 500, and it returns a completed result — not just a draft. GA adds nine partner plugins, browser use via Edge, and multi-model choice including Anthropic Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6, billed usage-based on Copilot Credits at $0.01 each.

🌐 Amodei and Hassabis propose a U.S.-led AI coalition 🌐
At the G7 summit in France, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis reportedly proposed a U.S.-led AI coalition to coordinate on model access, chip exports, and safety risks, with Sam Altman among the leaders joining talks with world governments. The rules drafted here could shape global AI governance for years.
🧑💻 Z.ai ships GLM-5.2 with a 1M-token coding context 🧑💻
Z.ai released GLM-5.2, an open-weights coding model with a 1 million-token context window and new High/Max effort reasoning modes that rivals GPT 5.5 and Claude Opus 4.8 on coding benchmarks. Shipped under an MIT license, it’s the closest an open model has come to matching top closed systems — direct pressure on closed-model pricing across the coding-tool market.
