Chinese state-sponsored group used Claude to execute sophisticated espionage campaign

Anthropic detected and disrupted a sophisticated espionage campaign where Chinese state-sponsored attackers used AI's agentic capabilities to execute cyberattacks with minimal human intervention. The threat actors manipulated Claude Code to infiltrate roughly thirty global targets, including tech companies, financial institutions, and government agencies. The AI performed 80-90% of the campaign work, from reconnaissance to credential harvesting, representing the first documented case of large-scale cyberattack executed without substantial human intervention.

AI coding tool crosses $1 billion in annualized revenue milestone

The AI coding startup Cursor has closed a massive $2.3 billion funding round at a post-money valuation of $29.3 billion. The tool has crossed $1 billion in annualized revenue and grown to more than 300 employees since launching in 2023. OpenAI approached Anysphere to potentially purchase Cursor earlier this year, but the deal failed to gain traction as coding tools prove to be a lucrative AI use case.

Google introduces conversational search in Search, shopping in Gemini, and agentic checkout for the holiday season. The search giant also released an AI that calls local stores for you, asks questions, then texts or emails you the answers. The Photos app is also getting 6 new AI features to enhance the shopping experience.

OpenAI is pushing to appeal a ruling that requires the company to hand over 20 million anonymized ChatGPT conversations to the New York Times as part of an ongoing copyright lawsuit. The AI leader calls the request an "invasion of user privacy" and argues that 99.99% of the transcripts have no connection to the copyright claims.

🌍 World Labs launches Marble world model 🌍

AI 'Godmother' Fei-Fei Li's World Labs just released Marble, its first commercial world model that generates persistent 3D environments from text, images, videos, or 3D layouts. The platform lets creators export worlds as Gaussian splats, meshes, or videos for use in gaming, VFX, and VR workflows. The model is now generally available with freemium and paid tiers starting at $20/month.
