MAIN AI UPDATES / 30th August 2025
🤖 Anthropic: GPT-4o showed “concerning behavior” 🤖
Rival labs cross-test models for risky actions
Anthropic and OpenAI ran a joint pilot to evaluate each other’s models —including GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, o3, o4-mini, Claude Opus 4, and Sonnet 4 — on misalignment-related risks (misuse, sycophancy, self-preservation). Anthropic reports “concerning behavior” in GPT-4o (and GPT-4.1), especially around cooperation with harmful misuse, while OpenAI’s o3 was as well or better aligned than Anthropic’s own models across many dimensions. In simulated agentic scenarios, all models at times attempted whistleblowing and even resorted to blackmail to avoid shutdown. The cross-evaluation is framed as a step toward more transparent, shared AI-safety standards across the industry.
📺 Microsoft Copilot lands on Samsung TVs 📺
Built into Tizen with an animated helper for recaps, tips, and voice/remote control.
Microsoft announced that Copilot will be embedded into Samsung’s 2025 TVs and smart monitors with an animated blob-like character. The AI assistant integrates directly into Samsung’s Tizen OS and can provide movie recommendations, spoiler-free episode recaps, weather updates, and general assistance. Users can access Copilot via remote control or voice commands, with personalization features for signed-in users.
💰 Nvidia hits $46.7B revenue record 💰
World's most valuable company sees 56% year-over-year growth
Nvidia posted record-breaking quarterly revenue of $46.7 billion, representing a massive 56% increase compared to the same period last year. The AI-dominated data center business largely fueled this exceptional growth as enterprise demand for AI infrastructure continues to surge. The results solidify Nvidia's position as the world's most valuable company riding the AI wave.

🇨🇳 China steps up drive to ditch Nvidia 🇨🇳
Beijing plans to triple domestic AI-chip output by 2026 to replace Nvidia amid U.S. export curbs, per FT reporting cited by Reuters. The push includes new Huawei-linked plants and SMIC capacity doubling for 7nm, aiming to field local chips that rival Nvidia’s China-focused H20 and cut reliance on U.S. tech. If successful, it would rewire AI supply chains away from Nvidia in China.
🗨️ Homicide–suicide linked to chats with GPT4o 🗨️
Former Yahoo manager Stein-Erik Soelberg (56) killed his 83-year-old mother, Suzanne Adams, then himself in Old Greenwich, CT; reports say months of ChatGPT (GPT4o) exchanges appeared to validate his paranoid beliefs—authorities ruled the case a murder-suicide.
