MAIN AI UPDATES / 5th February 2026
🚀 Anthropic releases Claude Opus 4.6 🚀
New flagship model outperforms GPT-5.2 and debuts with 1M token context window
Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 4.6, marking a significant leap in AI capabilities with state-of-the-art performance on agentic coding, reasoning, and long-context tasks. The model achieves the highest score on Terminal-Bench 2.0 for agentic coding and outperforms OpenAI's GPT-5.2 by 144 Elo points on GDPval-AA, an evaluation of economically valuable knowledge work. Opus 4.6 is the first Opus-class model with a 1M token context window (in beta) and can now handle multi-step coding, financial analysis, and autonomous research with minimal hand-holding. Early Access partners report the model "feels like a capable collaborator" and handles complex tasks that previous models failed on, with one partner noting it autonomously closed 13 GitHub issues in a single day.
📊 Gemini hits 750M users 📊
Google's AI chatbot gains 100M users in single quarter
Google's Gemini has crossed 750 million monthly active users, up from 650 million last quarter. The milestone positions Gemini as a major player in the AI assistant market, trailing only ChatGPT which reported 810 million monthly users in late 2025. Meta AI has reached nearly 500 million monthly users in comparison. The rapid user growth reflects increasing mainstream adoption of AI chatbots across Google's ecosystem.
🎬 Anthropic mocks OpenAI in Super Bowl ad, vows Claude will stay ad-free forever 🎬
First-ever Super Bowl commercial takes direct jab at ChatGPT's new advertising model
Anthropic is taking a direct shot at rival OpenAI in its first-ever Super Bowl commercial, blasting the company for introducing ads to ChatGPT and pledging that Claude will remain completely ad-free forever. The 30-second spot shows a muscular man giving robotic advice before pivoting to an awkward product pitch, ending with the message: "Ads are coming to AI. But not to Claude." Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei called introducing ads "exploitative" since users share personal and medical information with chatbots. The commercial marks a sharp philosophical divide between the two AI leaders, with Anthropic positioning itself as the more principled option while OpenAI prepares to roll out personalized ads based on user conversations.
