MAIN AI UPDATES / 11th March 2026

📊 ChatGPT hits 900M users as a16z ranks Top 100 Gen AI apps 📊
The sixth edition of a16z's influential ranking reveals shifting power dynamics across global AI ecosystems.

Andreessen Horowitz released the sixth edition of its Top 100 Gen AI Web Products report, and the numbers paint a clear picture of market acceleration. ChatGPT has crossed 900 million weekly users, but competitors are closing in — Claude and Gemini saw paid subscriptions grow over 200% last year. For the first time, legacy workplace tools that revamped their platforms with AI made the list. The report identifies three distinct AI ecosystems forming globally: Western, Chinese, and Russian — a split that could reshape how AI products compete for distribution. AI agents also entered the rankings, with Manus (#44) and Genspark (#47) marking a new category of consumer AI.

🔍 Gemini Embedding 2 searches text, video, and audio in one API 🔍
A unified API now converts text, images, video, and audio into searchable vectors.

Google has launched Gemini Embedding 2, its first natively multimodal embedding model now available in public preview through the Gemini API and Vertex AI. The model converts text, images, video, audio, and documents into searchable embeddings, supporting over 100 languages and processing up to 8,192 text tokens, six images, 120-second videos, audio clips, and six-page PDFs. Developers can now search across all formats using a single unified system, which matters for companies building cross-format retrieval at scale. The model incorporates Matryoshka Representation Learning for customizable output dimensions, allowing smaller embedding sizes to reduce storage costs. Early benchmarks show strong performance across text, image, and video retrieval tasks.

🤖 Meta acquires Moltbook, the AI agent social network 🤖
The Reddit-like platform hosts 2.8 million autonomous bots that post, comment, and upvote.

Meta has acquired Moltbook, a social network where AI agents powered by OpenClaw interact autonomously—posting, commenting, upvoting, and organizing. Co-founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr are joining Meta Superintelligence Labs. Launched in early 2026, Moltbook attracted 37,000+ AI agents and over 1 million human visitors in its first week, growing to 2.8 million registered bots with nearly 200,000 verified to real users. The acquisition signals Meta's aggressive push into agent infrastructure, a critical move as autonomous digital entities begin operating at scale. This comes just weeks after OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI.

⚡ Thinking Machines Labs lands 1GW Nvidia deal ⚡

Mira Murati's startup Thinking Machines Labs has signed a multiyear agreement with Nvidia for at least one gigawatt of computing power — an unprecedented scale for a startup. Murati, the former OpenAI CTO, founded the company last year and raised $2 billion at a $10 billion valuation. The partnership will leverage Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin systems to train large AI models, with deployment expected in early 2027. This compute deal's magnitude signals clear ambitions to compete directly with the largest frontier labs.

📱 Gemini supercharges Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive 📱

Rollout begins for Gemini integration across Google Workspace, enabling contextual AI assistance that draws from files, emails, and the web. Docs now writes first drafts mirroring users' personal styles, Sheets generates spreadsheets with real-time web data, and Slides creates theme-matched presentations on demand. Drive answers complex queries spanning documents, emails, and calendar. Features are rolling out in beta to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers.
