⚡ Claude Dispatch runs tasks on your computer while you're away ⚡
Anthropic's new background agent challenges OpenAI's agentic product lineup.
Anthropic has shipped Dispatch, a major new feature within Claude Cowork that fundamentally changes how users interact with the AI assistant. Rather than maintaining traditional back-and-forth chat, Dispatch enables users to assign tasks that Claude continues working on autonomously in the background. The feature maintains memory across tasks and can interact with files, browse the web, and use computer tools through a paired mobile phone connection. This directly challenges OpenAI's agent-based products for always-on AI workflows. Dispatch is currently rolling out as a research preview for Max subscribers, with broader access planned for later this year.
🔥 Meta considers cutting 20% of its workforce 🔥
Facebook's parent weighs cutting thousands of jobs to bankroll AI infrastructure.
Meta is reportedly considering major layoffs that could affect 20% or more of its workforce, according to Reuters. The cuts would help offset the company's aggressive spending on AI infrastructure, acquisitions, and hiring. As of December 31, Meta employed nearly 79,000 people, meaning up to 15,800 roles could be at risk. A Meta spokesperson called the reporting "speculative." The move echoes a broader industry pattern where tech companies use AI automation as justification for headcount reductions — though critics, including OpenAI's Sam Altman, have called some of these cuts "AI-washing." The last time Meta cut at this scale was November 2022, when it eliminated 11,000 jobs. This signals AI's growing impact on Big Tech workforce planning.
🔧 Mistral launches Forge for on-premises training 🔧
European AI leader offers data-sovereign alternative to US cloud providers.
French AI company Mistral has launched Forge, a platform enabling enterprises and governments to build custom AI models trained from scratch on proprietary data including internal documents, codebases, and workflows. Crucially, training can run entirely on-premises with zero data exposure to Mistral, addressing key enterprise security concerns. Early partners include major European organizations: ASML, Ericsson, and the European Space Agency. This launch strengthens Europe's position in enterprise AI infrastructure and offers organizations seeking data sovereignty a compelling replacement for US-based providers. Forge positions itself as a more controlled alternative to fine-tuning and RAG approaches.

📱 Gemini Personal Intelligence free for US users 📱
Google's Personal Intelligence feature, which connects Gemini to Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube for hyper-personalized AI responses, now rolls out free to all US users. Previously restricted to paid accounts, this integration delivers contextual answers based on personal data. The feature is disabled by default and requires explicit opt-in. This expansion leverages Google's data advantages that competitors cannot easily replicate.
⚖️ Microsoft may sue OpenAI over AWS deal ⚖️
Microsoft is reportedly considering legal action against OpenAI over a $50 billion deal with Amazon Web Services, arguing it could violate exclusivity provisions in their partnership agreement. The AWS deal would see Amazon distribute OpenAI products across its public-sector customer base. This dispute could reshape competitive dynamics between major cloud providers and their AI partnerships.
