MAIN AI UPDATES / 14th August 2025

🤖 Gemini gets Personal Context memory and Temporay Chats 🤖
Google enhances its AI chatbot with two new features

Google has unveiled significant upgrades to its Gemini chatbot, starting with a new 'Personal Context' feature that automatically remembers chat history without users needing to repeat information. The feature will recall preferences and past conversations to deliver more tailored responses.

Google is introducing Temporary Chat in Gemini, letting users have quick, one-off conversations that don’t influence future chats. Messages won’t appear in recent chats or Gemini Apps Activity, and won’t be used to personalize experiences or train AI models. Stored for up to 72 hours, the feature starts rolling out today and will reach all users in the coming weeks.

🚪 xAI co-founder exits to launch AI safety venture 🚪
Igor Babuschkin leaves Musk's company amid Grok controversies

Igor Babuschkin announced his departure from xAI to launch Babuschkin Ventures, a VC firm focused on backing startups that promise to make AI "safe and beneficial to humanity." The exit comes amid a string of PR controversies for xAI's Grok chatbot, including political rants, inappropriate image generation features, and romantic chatbot avatars designed for adults.

The move highlights growing concerns about AI safety as foundation models become more powerful and widespread.

📱 Meta's Threads crosses 400M users, closes gap to X 📱
Social platform milestone creates valuable AI training data asset

Meta's Threads has reached 400 million monthly active users, significantly closing the gap with X in the social media landscape. While the advertising revenue potential is obvious, the strategic value may be greater for Meta's AI efforts. The company now has access to a substantial real-time text dataset that could prove valuable for training its AI models. Given how X's data reportedly enhanced training for xAI's Grok models, Meta's growing text corpus could become a significant asset for its AI development if the company chooses to leverage it.
