MAIN AI UPDATES / 17th February 2026
✉️ Manus Agents turns Telegram into a 24/7 AI workspace ✉️
Manus brings agentic AI into everyday messaging apps, starting with Telegram integration.
Manus has launched Manus Agents, delivering its full AI agent capabilities directly into Telegram chat threads. Available across all user plans, the feature lets users run multi-step tasks—research, summaries, data processing, PDF and report generation—without leaving their messaging app. The system supports voice, images, and files, and lets users choose between faster or deeper reasoning models with long-term memory. Support for WhatsApp, Messenger, LINE, Slack, Discord, and native desktop apps is coming next. Notably, the Telegram bot was briefly suspended without explanation shortly after launch, highlighting the growing tension between AI agents and platform gatekeeping—a distribution risk that could shape how agentic AI actually reaches users at scale.
🔥 Qwen3.5 rivals GPT-5.2 at 60% lower cost 🔥
Alibaba's latest open-weight model challenges frontier pricing with a hybrid 397B-parameter architecture.
Alibaba has released Qwen3.5-397B-A17B, the first model in its Qwen3.5 series, featuring a hybrid architecture that fuses linear attention with a sparse mixture-of-experts design activating only 17B of 397B parameters per forward pass. The native vision-language model supports 201 languages, processes text, images, and video, and is built for agentic AI with planning, tool use, and action-taking capabilities. Alibaba claims it approaches GPT-5.2 and Gemini 3 Pro performance while surpassing them in agentic search, document recognition, and instruction following—at 60% lower cost. This puts serious competitive pressure on Western frontier labs, proving China's open-weight ecosystem can deliver near-parity performance at a fraction of the price.
🔬 GPT-5.2 makes first AI physics discovery 🔬
AI independently discovers formula and proves correctness
OpenAI's GPT-5.2 has independently discovered a mathematical formula in particle physics and formally proved its correctness, marking what the company calls AI's first original contribution to theoretical physics. The specialized research version tackled a problem assumed solved, found the existing answer was wrong, and proposed the correct one—autonomously writing the math proof in 12 hours. The work was verified by physicists from Harvard, Cambridge, and Princeton, with Harvard's Andrew Strominger noting the AI "chose a path no human would have tried." The breakthrough challenges skeptics questioning whether AI can produce genuinely new scientific ideas.

🔧 Microsoft tests Researcher agents in Copilot Tasks 🔧
Microsoft is rolling out new Researcher and Analyst agents integrated into Copilot's upcoming "Tasks" feature, deepening agentic AI integration across its productivity suite. Users will be able to schedule complex prompts leveraging OpenAI's o3-mini models for research and data analysis, with a new "Auto" mode for streamlined task automation. The move positions Copilot beyond a chat assistant into a proactive workflow tool—adding competitive pressure in the enterprise AI productivity space.
⚠️ Pentagon may cut Anthropic ties & label it "supply chain risk" ⚠️
The Pentagon is reportedly "close" to cutting ties with Anthropic and designating the company a "supply chain risk"—a badge usually reserved for foreign adversaries—over its restrictions on how Claude is used by the military. The designation would force all U.S. defense contractors to cut ties with Anthropic, severely impacting the company's business. Defense officials demand the right to use AI for "all lawful purposes", while Anthropic holds firm against granting broad permissions, seeking to ensure its AI is not used for spying on Americans or building autonomous weapons. Claude is currently the only AI on the Pentagon's classified systems, creating a critical standoff over who controls frontier model deployment in military operations.
