💡 Fidji Simo joins OpenAI with vision to Democratize AI for All 💡
Former Instacart CEO focuses on AI accessibility and empowerment
OpenAI has announced that Fidji Simo will join as CEO of Applications, tasked with getting OpenAI's technologies into more hands worldwide.
Simo, who describes herself as a "pragmatic technologist," believes AI will unlock more opportunities than any technology in history by democratizing access to knowledge, health, creative expression, economic freedom, time, and support. She emphasizes that AI can give everyone more power but warns that opportunities won't appear magically - requiring intentional building to ensure greater empowerment for all rather than wealth concentration for the few.
Simo highlights AI's potential to compress thousands of hours of learning into personalized insights, with studies showing AI tutors help people learn twice as much as human tutors and 90% of ChatGPT users reporting easier understanding of complex ideas.
In healthcare, AI can explain lab results, decode medical jargon, and serve as an always-on companion bridging knowledge gaps.
For creativity, AI collapses the distance between imagination and execution, with one in three Gen Z users saying AI helps them express themselves in new ways.
Economically, AI enables solopreneurs to launch businesses 70% faster, while serving as a trusted financial guide for better decision-making.
🏆DeepMind's Gemini Deep Think achieves IMO Gold Medal 🏆
It solves 5/6 problems perfectly, earning 35 points in time limit
Google DeepMind has achieved a major breakthrough with an advanced version of Gemini Deep Think earning gold-medal performance at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025, solving 5 out of 6 problems perfectly and scoring 35 out of 42 points.
This represents a significant advance over last year's silver-medal performance by AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2 systems that scored 28 points. Unlike previous systems requiring expert translation into domain-specific languages like Lean and taking 2-3 days of computation, this year's Gemini model operated end-to-end in natural language, producing rigorous mathematical proofs directly from official problem descriptions within the 4.5-hour competition time limit.
The achievement utilized enhanced reasoning mode incorporating parallel thinking techniques, enabling the model to simultaneously explore multiple solutions before providing final answers.
IMO President Prof. Dr. Gregor Dolinar confirmed the milestone, noting solutions were "clear, precise and easy to follow." Google DeepMind trained this version using novel reinforcement learning techniques with multi-step reasoning and theorem-proving data, plus access to curated high-quality mathematical solutions.
🔋UBTech unveils Self-Charging Walker S2 Robot🔋
World's first humanoid robot with autonomous battery swapping for non-stop factory operations
Chinese robotics company UBTech has unveiled the Walker S2, the world's first humanoid robot capable of fully autonomous battery swapping for continuous 24/7 industrial operations. The robot can replace its own power pack in just three minutes without human intervention, using advanced dual-battery power balancing technology and standardized battery modules to optimize performance. The dual-battery system automatically switches to a backup battery during main battery failure, ensuring critical tasks continue uninterrupted.
Walker S2 intelligently chooses between charging and swapping based on task urgency, managing energy dynamically to adapt to real-time operational demands. Equipped with anthropomorphic bipedal locomotion and hot-swappable battery system, the robot is designed for dynamic industrial environments where it approaches charging stations, detaches depleted power packs, and seamlessly installs fresh ones autonomously

💬 ChatGPT hits 2.5 Billion Daily Prompts Milestone 💬
ChatGPT now receives 2.5 billion prompts from global users every day, with 330 million coming from US users alone, OpenAI revealed to Axios. The figures demonstrate the rapid growth and ubiquity of OpenAI's flagship product, showing more than double the usage compared to December when CEO Sam Altman reported over 1 billion daily queries - representing explosive growth in just eight months.
While Google's parent company Alphabet doesn't release daily search data, recent disclosures show Google receives 5 trillion queries per year, averaging just under 14 billion daily searches. Independent research from Neil Patel of NP Digital estimates 13.7 billion daily Google searches, while SparkToro and Datos research suggests approximately 16.4 billion daily searches.
🤝 Meta partners with AWS for Llama Startup Program 🤝
Meta has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch a new program supporting 30 promising US startups building with Llama models, expanding on Meta's Llama Startup Program announced in May. The six-month virtual program targets startups that have raised seed, Series A, or Series B funding, are less than ten years old, and demonstrate technical ability with high-impact potential. Selected startups will receive dedicated support, AWS promotional credits, technical mentorship, compute resources, and strategic go-to-market support to accelerate their generative AI applications.
Applications are due August 8, 2025, with AWS notifying selected startups by August 29, 2025, followed by the six-month building phase.
